I've been thinking of songs to play during labor. What songs will sound best at each stage of progress? (Yes, these songs are all on my iTunes ...)
Stage 1: Early Labor
- "Panic"/The Smiths. Off to the hospital!
- "No Fun"/The Stooges. It really isn't.
- "Had to Cry Today"/Blind Faith. This hurts.
- "Better Living Through Chemistry"/Queens of the Stone Age. Where's the epidural?
- "Angry Chair"/Alice in Chains. Or Angry Bed, Angry Tub ... This is when the profanity starts.
- "Moanin' at Midnight"/Howlin' Wolf. It could be midnight, 3 a.m., noon ...
Stage 2: Active Labor/Delivery
- "Dazed and Confused"/Led Zeppelin. Take it easy, baby!
- "You Bring Me Pain"/Meat Raffle Road. Though this is isn't the first or last time that Blinker will cause hardship.
- "Hurt"/Nine Inch Nails. See Point #2, above.
- "Help Me I am in Hell"/Nine Inch Nails. What's with all the NIN songs that are about trauma?
- "Push It"/Salt n Pepa. This song is more about conception than birth, but it still works.
- "Ring of Fire"/Johnny Cash. And it burns, burns, burns .... Sorry, everyone.
- "Burning Bush"/16 Horsepower. Sorry again.
Stage 3: Collapse
- "Isn't She Lovely"/Stevie Wonder. Or "Isn't He Lovely." Blinker is here!
